Dec. 6, 2016 – When the dust settles post-inauguration, the Trump administration likely will be considering how it might want to change the FDA, and APCO Worldwide’s Wayne Pines recently put forward “six important ideas” about the agency and its mission in Morning Consult to help the Trump team frame its future decisions. These ideas, listed below (and spelled out in Pines’ article at: https://morningconsult.com/opinions/food-drug-administration-six-important-ideas/), should give the new administration much food for thought as it moves forward with any FDA reform:
- The basic mission of the FDA is not political
- The drug approval process is working
- Don’t involve the FDA in drug prices
- A hiring freeze would disproportionally affect the FDA
- The FDA needs more money
- The FDA needs stable leadership
