HIPAA Health Check Assessments

Venable LLP is prepared to help you assess your organization’s current privacy and data security posture with a “Health Check” assessment focused on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) or other laws governing health data. These assessments can be conducted individually, based on your specific needs, or done in combination with a more comprehensive privacy and security program evaluation, and are protected by attorney-client privilege to the extent allowed by law.

Specifically, if your organization is a Covered Entity or a Business Associate under HIPAA, Venable can perform a variety of assessments to determine your compliance with the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, including performance of a Security Risk Assessment, as well as other requirements under law. As part of its offerings, Venable can prepare Business Associate Agreements (“BAAs”) and otherwise assist in the process of negotiating and executing BAAs with counterparties. We also offer cyber incident planning and response services for both HIPAA-regulated entities and other businesses. Before an incident even arises, we work closely with clients to develop proactive incident response plans and other breach-readiness tools and resources. In the event of an incident, we help clients assess the nature and scope of the incident, mitigate impact, notify individuals and regulatory agencies, and prepare for potential regulatory scrutiny and class-action litigation.
